Ms. Akiko Noda, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director of the Crisis Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme, shared her views with the Japanese Parliamentary Committee of the World Federation.
Ms. Akiko Noda explained that UNDP has always been engaged in field-based projects before, during, and after conflicts, as well as before and after natural disasters, listening to and consulting with people, governments, and civil society on their concerns, and working together to create solutions for further development. At the Parliamentary Committee of the National Diet of Japan for World Federation, Philippe Lazzarini, Executive Director of the United Nations Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees, requested that Japan resume providing humanitarian assistance for Palestinian residents. Thank you to Professor Takaaki Mizuno for inviting me to his final lecture at Kanda University of Foreign Studies. It was the most rewarding opportunity to talk with his students on this special day. I was impressed that his students were learning in-depth about contemporary international peace and development issues. The video that showed students’ discussions on behalf of the countries involved regarding conflicts occurring around the world was insightful and remarkable.

The meeting of the presidents of the United Nations Associations of the three countries, Japan, China, and South Korea, was held for two days, from August 21 to 22, 2023. It was held at the Guest House of the China United Nations Association in Beijing for the first time in four years.
