According to an informal survey conducted by PassBlue on potential candidates for the next UN Secretary-General, Michelle Bachelet of Chile emerged as the leading contender, securing over 29% of the votes. Her closest challenger, María Fernanda Espinosa of Ecuador, received 13.7%, followed by Mia Mottley of Barbados with 8.9%.
Michelle Bachelet, a Chilean politician, served as President of Chile from 2006 to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2018, becoming the country’s first and so far only female president. In her 2013 re-election, she won over 62% of the vote—up from 54% in 2006—making her the first Chilean president to be re-elected since 1932.
While the survey remains unofficial, it highlights the growing global attention surrounding the upcoming UN leadership transition and the prominence of women leaders in international governance.
