Tadamichi YAMAMOTO (山本 忠通)
・visiting Professor at Doshisha University

・Joint the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 1974.
・Served at the Embassies of the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and the United States before assigned to the Economic Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to become the Chief Negotiator for the Trade in Services in the Uruguay Round. He was in that position until the General Agreement on Trade in Services was finalized.
・In December 1991, he became the Director for the First Southeast Asia Division and was in charge of the peace process in Cambodia.
・From 1994, he consecutively served as the Private Secretary (Executive Assistant) to the Foreign Minister, the Director of the Policy Planning, and the Director for the First North America Division in the Ministry.
・In February 1998, he was posted to the Embassy in the Republic of Korea as the Minister for Political Affairs. He then served as the Consul-General in Boston and the Minister for Political affairs at the Embassy of Japan in the United States. He became the Deputy Chief of Mission before returning to Japan.
・In August 2005, he was appointed as the Ambassador in charge of Assistance to Iraq and Counter-Aterrorism. In December, he also assumed the post of Ambassador in charge of North Korean nuclear issues. In August 2006, he became the Director General for Public Diplomacy.
・In July 2008, he was appointed an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and became the Permanent Representative to UNESCO.
・In September 2010, he returned to Tokyo and was appointed as the Ambassador in charge of assistance to Pakistan and Afghanistan. In July 2012, as the Government Representative, he was the official in charge of the Ministerial Conference on Assistance to Afghanistan held in Tokyo.
・In September 2012, he was appointed the Ambassador to Hungary.
・On 15th November 2014, he joined the United Nations as the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for Afghanistan in charge of political Affairs. In June 2016, he became the Special Representative of the Secretary General and the Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). In March 2020, he left the post.
・From March 2021, He is a visiting Professor at Doshisha University; a Visiting Fellow at the Sasagawa Foundation; and a Councilor at the International Peace Building Center of the Kyoto University of Arts.
・Graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, BSc; and University of Oxford, BA.
