Preparatory Meeting Held at UNU Tokyo for UN Choir Peace Concert Committee; Japan Tour Planned for October 2026 (22/12/2025)

A preparatory meeting of the Organizing Committee for the UN Choir Peace Concert was held on December 18 at United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo, chaired by Ms. Mieko Ikegame, the Executive Chair. Participants discussed plans and coordination for the upcoming project.

The UN Choir is scheduled to visit Japan in October 2026 and perform in four cities—Tokyo, Nagasaki, Kyoto, and Hiroshima. The committee also shared a plan to adopt a “Peace Declaration through Music” in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of Japan’s admission to the United Nations, aiming to amplify messages of peace through music.

The meeting was attended by UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala and Mr. Sukehiro Hasegawa, President of the Association of Former International Civil Servants of the UN System in Japan, who joined discussions on the significance of the initiative and future cooperation.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to participate in the organizing committee for the United Nations Choir Peace Concert. I hope that by turning our desire for peace into a form of committee activity, we can work together to contribute to peace activities through culture and art from Japan.
