Seven day mid-career course held from 9 to 15 January at the Yoyogi Olympic Memorial Center (15/01/2016)

 Twenty seven UN staff and professionals from Japan and five other countries engaged in peace, humanitarian and development assistance enhanced their communication and leadership competencies in multidisciplinary peace operations.

Takashi Kamishiro, ICRC delegate and former UN reintegration officer in Sudan asked how important the issue of gender in the process of the recruitment of the UN peacekeeping personnel by giving his impression that the UN was looking mainly for female candidates. He was assured the gender balanced personnel in the peacekeeping was important, but it was not the only determinant factor for the recruitment.  The professional experience and enthusiasm to work in the mission will weigh, and in the end, female candidates will gain the posts.
