Professor Hasegawa speaks at the Seoul International Conference on Peacekeeping Operations (13/11/2014)

 The 2014 PKO International Conference was held at Sookmyung Women`s University Centennial Memorial Hall on 13 November 2014. At the conference organize by the Korea Peacekeeping Operations Center, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and Korea AcaSedemic Council on the United Nations System, Professor Sukehiro Hasegawa spoke about the implications of financial, troop and civilian contributions made by Japan to UN peacekeeping operations since Japan became the member of the United Nations in 1956.

 The Chancellor of the Korea National Defense University, LTG WEE Seung Ho, and Chairman of the National Defense Committee, HWANG Jin Ha, made opening remarks along with the Resident Representative of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stifung in Korea and the President of Sookmyung Women`s University, Dr. HWANG Sun-Hye. The Keynote Speech was delivered by Minister of National Defense HAN Min-Koo. The discussion papers and speeches included “Explaining Korea`s Divergent Perceptions of Overseas Peace Operations” by KIM Jae Chun and Professor Lee Shin Wha, “Forecasting the ROK`s Future Vision: Building Capacity of PKO activity and PKO Center`s role” by JEON Byung Hwan, “DPKO-IO/NGO Relations in Humanitarian Assistance” by PARK Mi Hyung, “Challenges to peace operations and their required improvements : an overview” by Jair vn Der Lijn, “The Legal Foundations of UN Peace Operations” by Boris Kondoch and “Enhancing PKO`s Capability and Chapter 7 Challenges: The Case of South Sudan” by Professor Park Heung Soon.
